According to a new study released by AOL & Nielsen on MarketingProfs, there are about 27 million pieces of digital content shared every day. Additionally, nearly 25% of all social media messages contain links to content. For industry-specific social messages, that number jumps to just below 50%.
When looking at specific social channels, you get a better feel of where and for what reason these pieces of content are being shared:
- About 12% of all Facebook posts contain content-sharing links (22% industry-specific)
- 42% of all Twitter posts include links to content (73% industry-specific)
- 41% of all blog posts have some kind of links for content-sharing (64% industry-specific)
With the explosion of blogs and the importance of Twitter to marketers, these figures while surprising in sheer volume, are what we would expect percentage-wise.
A few other key bits of information from the study:
- 99% of people who share content via social also share via email
- 53% of time spent on the internet is attributable to content consumption
- 60% of all content-sharing messages mention a brand
Do you find yourself sharing content via e-mail just as much as you do via Twitter? Is your blog for your own thoughts or do you share content on it as well?
