According to a recent report released by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, social media usage among older adults is growing more rapidly than any other age group.
From April 2009 to May 2010, social media usage among adults 50+ nearly doubled from 22% to 42% over the course of the year. By comparison, usage grew by only 13% for those aged 18 – 29.
Which social networks are older adults engaged in?
LinkedIn is a prime target for many older adults online for it’s business and professional use. Facebook, however, is leading the way as a way to manage daily communication with friends and family, but still pales in comparison to e-mail. Even Twitter is getting a piece of the action in the 50+ crowd as 10% say the use the service to share updates or read updates from others.
