The Who, What, Where, and Why of Blogging

Blogging is everywhere and almost everyone is blogging. It’s estimated today that there are over 130,000,000 blogs online. A number that is most likely outdated as soon as it’s written down. Who is doing all this blogging, and what are they blogging about?

Luckily, Technorati publishes a state of the blogosphere report, and the good folks over at TheFutureBuzz help make sense of it all.

Who’s doing all the blogging?

  • 2/3 are male
  • 75% are college graduates
  • 25% earn over $100k yearly

What are they blogging about?

  • Personal Musings and Technology are most popular
  • Sports and Television fall towards the bottom of the list

Where are they blogging?

  • Almost 50% are in the US
  • Approximately 25% are in Europe

Why are they blogging?

  • Over 70% say they blog to share expertise
  • 35% plan to one day publish a book
  • 72% of self-employed bloggers are interested in attracting new clients
