Not-for-Profit organizations are usually faced with the task of performing world-changing tasks on a shoestring budget. The good thing for non-profits however is that social media has provided a wealth of low-cost resources to help spread their messages. Also, early adopters in social networks are usually younger and more tuned into social causes than your average individual. As a result, more and more non-profits are beginning to use and expand their efforts in social media marketing, but not all are utilizing the full potential of social media.
There are a number of resources available that sync up with the more popular networks which are amazingly useful. Chad Norman, of GoGreenCharleston, includes these and much more in this great list of social media tactics for non-profits on slideshare.
A few key tips:
- Create a fundraising campaign organized with Twitter
- Organize a petition with act.ly
- Create a Facebook landing page for fans / nonfans
- Make a funny or compelling video on Youtube, not a sad one
